Caribous Support White Ribbon Campaign

Clarenville Caribous are Proud to partnership with Eastern Region Committee Against Violence on the White Ribbon Campaign.

The White Ribbon Campaign is the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against women. In over fifty-five countries, campaigns are led by both men and women, even though the focus is on educating men and boys.

In 1991, a handful of men in Canada decided that wearing a white ribbon would be a symbol of men's opposition to violence against women.

The official launching of the White Ribbon Campaign will be held at the Clarenville Caribous hockey game, November 13, 2010 After the hockey game a banner with the Caribous pledge will be permanently placed in the front entrance of the Event Center.

The Clarenville Caribous are a proud Partner with the White Ribbon Campaign.

1 in 2 Women in Newfoundland and Labrador will experience at least one incident of sexual or physical violence in their lifetime.  

Only 10% of women will actually report this victimization to the police, 95% of these women will be victimized by someone known to them.

198 women were victims of homicide in Canada in 2004. On average, 182 females were killed every year in Canada between 1994 and 2003.

Between 1999 and 2004, NL was the only jurisdiction during this five year period to show an increase in spousal violence against women {a 2% increase}.  

1 in 4 Canadian women are assaulted in their lifetime.  

At least one million children have witnessed violence against their mother.  

Every minute of every day, a women or child is abused.

We all need to work together to make a difference!
