June 23/10 - Caribous Sign Eric Braff
The Clarenville Caribous are pleased to announce their newest signing: Eric Braff. Eric will fill one of the Caribous four import cards during the 2010-2011 season.
Eric Braff played 259 regular season games in the Ontario Hockey League, all of them in a Kingston Frontenacs jersey and advanced to the playoffs during each of his four seasons. In total, Braff played in 26 playoff games in his four seasons in Kingston and sits just two games shy of the franchise’s all-time playoff games played record. During his final season in the OHL Eric was a nominee for the OHL defenseman of the year.
Since leaving Kingston in 2001, Braff attended St. Francis Xavier University where he played in 107 CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) games over four years, missing just one game in his CIS career. In 2004, Eric played an integral role for St.F.X. University when they captured the AUS (Atlantic University Sport) Championship as well as the CIS National Canadian Championship. After graduating in 2004-05, Eric attended the Los Angeles Kings training camp and signed his first professional contract with the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL. Eric has spent the last four seasons playing professionally in Europe for the Basingstoke Bison of the British Elite Ice Hockey League and HC Eppan in Italy. In Basingstoke, Eric was named team MVP during the 2006-2007 season and his Italian club won both the regular season and playoff titles last season.
Eric Braff is a player the Caribous have been following closely for several years and the organization is extremely excited with the signing. Eric's size (6'4" 225lbs), defensive presence, penalty killing, and vast experince will significantly strengthen our team. Eric has won at all levels he's played and has earned a reputation as a quality team player both in the dressing room and the community.
